Overview

In recent decades, life science research has made possible our understanding of basic molecular and cellular development and mechanisms of life. Today, Life Sciences topics and tools are present in almost all disciplines of science and technology. Pursuing an education in Life Sciences is both challenging and demanding.

 

Faculty of Life Sciences & Technology as a part of AKS University, Satna introduced Bachelor degree programs, Master degree programs and Ph.D. The courseware has been embedded specialization courses. The faculty has been set up with well-equipped modern labs and class-rooms. These programs is focused on multi-disciplinary productive research and teaching. Faculty emphasized on research projects and maximum experiments during whole courseware. Hands on practical training is provided to individual student on current techniques in life sciences related to Genomics, Proteomics, PCR, Electrophoresis, DNA, RNA and Protein Expression, Purification and Separation, Real Time PCR, DNA Sequencing, Blotting Techniques, Animal and Plant Cell Culture and ELISA, and in silico Biology and Tools of Bioinformatics.

 

Syllabi contain OMIC technologies (genomics, proteomics, metagenomics, and metabolomics); Nanotechnology, System Biology, Cell and Tissue Engineering, Biosensors and Intellectual Property Rights, Legal and Social issues to make the students ready for industry as well as academia. This will allow them with the latest technologies and facilitate them to pursue high quality fundamental research with creativity and innovation.

 

The faculty has set up Research and Training Centre for producing the Bio-technocrats as per need of academia and industry present need. It is a first of its kind in Madhya Pradesh. Faculty has created Institute-Industry-Interface to produce skilled manpower as per need of industry.

 

Students are allowed to pursue five-six months research in last semester. The faculty has been drawn from various academics research organizations of the country such as IITs, NITs and Top Universities and will also involve guest faculty from India and abroad during the course. The Faculty keeps itself alive with regular academic activities like seminars/conferences, hands on workshops, conferences, and Popular Expert Lectures.

Courses Offered

The Department of Microbiology and Biotechnology offers a two years Post Graduate program leading to the M.Tech. (Biotechnology) ,Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Microbiology and Biotechnology, three years B.Sc. (Honors) Biotechnology, and four years B.Tech.(Biotechnology). The all programme begin with fundamental courses in Biochemistry, Genetics, Microbiology and Molecular Biology and then proceed to a thorough study of their selected area of specialization.

The backbone of the department is the academic intellectual sense provided by a dedicated faculty and students coming from all across the country. The Department has a strong base in Microbial technology and Plant Biotechnology and the main focus of the program is on Genetics, Molecular Biology, Industrial Microbiology, Immunology, Bioinformatics, Biochemistry and other contemporary areas allied to Microbiology and Biotechnology.  Basic training is given in Microbiology, Biochemistry, Genetics, Developmental Biology, Genetic Engineering, Biochemical Engineering and some aspects of Biophysics, Biostatistics, Environmental Biology, Bioinformatics, and Genetic Engineering. Biotechnology is an interdisciplinary program with life sciences, chemical engineering and bioprocesses. The students are educated with the industrial processes which evolve into bioproducts using chemical engineering tools to design process equipments and optimize for effective production. The curriculum explains the use of living cells in bioprocesses along with their biochemical properties to be engineered in life sciences papers.
